The Fund for Wellesley has given over $230,000 in grants in eight years.
We are pleased to announce that The Fund for Wellesley awarded more than $20,000 to five local nonprofit organizations on Thursday, June 10, 2016 at Babson College. Recipients of the 2016 FFW Grant Awards are:
OUT MetroWest - The mission of OUT MetroWest is to enrich the LGBTQ community in MetroWest, Boston, and the larger world through programming, education and advocacy. Grant money will be used to improve training for peer leaders and adult advisors in our Wellesley programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth.
The Wellesley Players - The mission of the Wellesley Players is to provide a path to creative community theater involvement and to deliver outstanding theatrical experiences that inspire and foster an appreciation for the arts. Grant money will be used to enable children in financial need and their families to attend a performance of “The Pied Piper”, an original musical.
Wellesley Council on Aging - The mission of the Wellesley Council on Aging is to serve as the primary resource for residents over the age of 60; to empower individuals to reach their goals; to offer comprehensive programs, services, and assistance that optimize quality of life; and to enable meaningful connections and collaborations that inspire a spirit of community across the generations in our town. Grant money will be used to engage a consulting firm to identify areas of opportunity that will enable the COA to attract younger seniors (those just over 60 years of age) and to help modify adverse perceptions in the general population about seniors and their role as active participants in the civic life of the Town.
Wellesley Natural Resource Commission - The Wellesley Natural Resources Commission provides stewardship of, education about, and advocacy for the Town of Wellesley’s park, conservation, recreation and open space system so that the full value of the Town’s natural assets can be passed on to future generations. Grant money will be use to fund start-up costs for a community gardening initiative that will span generations, languages, and culture as well as connect an array of nonprofit, volunteer and faith-based groups through a common purpose.
Wellesley Recreation Department - The mission of the Wellesley Recreation Department is to provide recreational and educational opportunities to residents of Wellesley. Grant money will be used to provide an opportunity for friends, family, and individuals with disabilities to kayak and canoe using the adaptive facilities at Morses Pond.
