This year, National Volunteer Week is celebrated April 10-16. In 2010, there were 234 volunteers who collectively provided more than 3,750 hours of volunteer service to the Wellesley Council on Aging (COA). In 2010, The Executive Office of Elder Affairs suggested that COA’s use a value of $15/hour when calculating the value of volunteers. This means that the value of the hours contributed by volunteers to the COA in 2010 totaled $56,250.00!!! Impressive!!! Our volunteer program has grown significantly over the last year, thanks to the generous support of The Fund for Wellesley. The Fund for Wellesley issued two consecutive grants to the COA in support of volunteer programs and sponsored a delightful volunteer recognition luncheon in October. The COA depends heavily on volunteers to help us fulfill our mission and we are always interested in speaking with individuals who may like to join our dedicated team of volunteers. For a listing of volunteer opportunities, please visit the Council on Aging website: www.wellesleyma.gov/coaor contact Gayle Thieme, Director of Senior Services at GThieme@wellesleyma.gov or call 781-235-3961.
To all of our wonderful COA volunteers – past and present – thank you for your contributions of time and talent!
We are very lucky to have you!
